Halong Bay, Vietnam

Halong Bay, Vietnam – UNESCO World Heritage Site – Summer 2007

A boat took us around the limestone isles and caves, monkey island, and the pearl farm. From the boat’s deck at night, the sky is completely covered in stars.

On the same trip, we went to one of the islands in the Bay for some biking and trekking through the juggle.  We hiked through the high grass and climbed up the hills to a bat cave.  Back at the rest stop, we were offered soft drinks, beers and homemade snake wine from a clear jug (snake still present within).

The last island of our trip was newly developed and was a world apart from the rest of the islands in the Bay.  That was in 2007.  At the pace Vietnam has been updating to attract the tourists, it’s best to visit as soon as possible while it holds on to its old charm.
